Very cozy little cafe. Friendly staff. Good vibe. Empanada tastes good!

Best cheese scones!! Lovely sisters who own it, always chatty and friendly. Lots of delicious food, in the cabinet and on the menu. Great coffee and hot chocolates too. Highly recommend!
Beautiful little cafe with lovely food and friendly kind staff. The famous cheese scones are incredible with crispy cheese on the outside. There are plenty of food and drink options and we tried the chicken panini and the salmon crossaint as well as a donut and scone - everything was great. You'll find amazing staff and a nice relaxing place to sit and eat. 10/10 experience overall.
We were in search of some of Wellington’s best cheese scones! I think this is definitely up there. Soft cheesy goodness heated up in a sandwich press to ensure it doesn’t go soggy/rubbery. You can get a larger one, or smaller ones for slightly less. Absolutely delicious cheese scones, wish I could eat it all over again! Pravda has some serious competition! El porteno also make a delicious hot choco which is a great price!
Got a couple of hot drinks from here. Nice vibes, good friendly service. The café is small and cramped, and it was real busy so we got our drinks to go. Obviously was a bit of a wait for that too. The Chai was nice. Probably won't be coming back unless it's a "spur of the moment, we're in the area, they don't look busy" situation.
We had a quick lunch at Cafe El Porteno on Easter Saturday. When we got there, the place was packed. We ordered the cheese scones and the ham empanada. It was our first time trying the empanada, and although we enjoyed it, I can't remember seeing any ham. Maybe I was just too hungry. The staff were pleasant as always. Overall experience was very good. We enjoy eating here when we're in Tawa. We're definitely coming back.
I am a weekly customer at El Porteño as is every Tawa local. The staff are always friendly and the scones are consistently good. Given it's popularity I think they have outgrown the space. It can be a little crammed in there on weekend mornings. Regardless I always enjoy my time there. Thanks
